A Trip to the Doctor's Office

Today Jack had a check-up with his pediatrician. We were expecting another round of vaccinations but to our surprise (and Jack's delight) he didn't get any on this visit. The next set of shots will come in August after he turns a year old. On this visit, Jack was weighed, measured, and the Doctor did a complete examination...everything checked out great. Jack weighs 22.5 lbs. which puts him in the (67th percentile) and he measures in at 30 1/4 inches (90th percentile) and his head circumference is 18.75(93rd percentile). So all in all, he is a big boy. Especially height-wise. We loved the Doctor we saw today, she was such a nice lady and Jack really seemed to open up around her.
On our way to the Doctors we got some bad news from my Mom...PapPap was once again taken to the Hospital. The nurse at the home where he lives thought he had a stroke. Thankfully, as it turns out, he did not. But once again, he was VERY dehydrated which caused stroke-like symptoms. I know these nursing homes are short-staffed but does it really take that much time to see that these elderly people (who depend on you for their every need) have enough to eat and drink? I can't imagine how people can be so negligent. This is the third time he was hospitalized and we were told he was very dehydrated...it's just unacceptable! We stopped at the hospital to see him and he looked terrible but the Dr. seemed to think once they got his Sodium levels down he would return to normal. When I went back into the waiting room Jack was there snacking on a Lorna Doone cookie. The Dr. said he can now eat whatever it is that we're eating...in soft, bite-sized pieces, of course! Look out!
